Harlem Cultural Festival Foundation (HCFF) partnered with Double Verify and Everyone On to produce the first HCFF Computer Access & Digital Literacy Lab for high school students from the Harlem NYCHA community.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Seventy five (75) high school students from the Harlem NYCHA community attended the first HCFF Computer Access & Digital Literacy Lab hosted at Harlem School of the Arts on December 7, 2024.

EVENT Highlights included:

COMPUTER & DIGITAL LITERACY LAB

Students were “gifted” Apple laptop computers and received hands on training during a one-hour workshop designed to increase digital access and literacy for underserved communities. 

PARTNERSHIPS

HCFF partnered with DoubleVerify and Everyone for the initiative. Everyone On designs and deliver high-impact, community-centered digital inclusion programs that are replicated nationwide via strategic partnerships.  DoubleVerify, a pioneer of digital ad verification, authenticates media quality and power performance for the world's largest brands, platforms and publishers.

Partnering with BUILD-A-BEAR-WORKSHOP.

The Harlem Cultural Festival Foundation partnered with global children’s brand Build-A-Bear Workshop to host a community outreach event for NYCHA families. The event featured a pop up Build-A-Bear Workshop & Reading Corner with free books donated by First Books.

Other partners included MetroPlus Health, which provided backpacks and school supplies; the recently opened Trader Joe’s Harlem, which donated a gift bag that was raffled; and the Dr. Yolanda Cares Foundation, which provided a nutrition corner presented by Lincoln Market. There was also music, face painting, and arts and crafts for the families to enjoy.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Over 150 parents and children attended from (14) NYCHA developments throughout Harlem. The event was hosted at St. Stephen AME Community Center.

EVENT Highlights included:

Backpacks & school supplies were provided by MetroPlus Health. Dr. Yolanda Cares Foundation provided a demo and samples of organic smoothies with ingredients donated by Lincoln Market. Trader Joe’s Harlem also donated a gift bag to be raffled. Families enjoyed music, an art station, face painting and lunch donated by Koronet Pizza.

Build-A-Bear Workshop donated 300 bears for the event. Each child participated in a heart ceremony (where they placed a heart inside the bear prior to stitching) and received a birth certificate and bear condo box for their new furry friend. Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation & First Books also gifted free books for a Reading Corner & for children to take home.

The Harlem Cultural Festival Foundation proudly partnered with the Dr. Yolanda Cares Foundation to sponsor the FCBC NYC Hope Center Teen Holiday Party. Design Challenge merchandise was included in the gift bags distributed to each teen, adding a special touch to the celebration.

In addition, HCFF organized a children's holiday party in partnership with FCBC Hope Center & members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus. The festive event, presented by local business The Row Harlem, included support from additional sponsors such as Northwestern Mutual/Vivid Advisory and Chocolat Restaurant.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Over 50 parents and children attended from First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC), NYCHA communities, and a midtown hotel shelter that supports immigrant families.

EVENT Highlights included:

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE

Each child also received a gift from pour “Holiday Toy Drive” sponsored by members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., spanning from Harlem to Delaware.

ACTIVITIES & LOCAL REFRESHMENTS

Kids delighted in creating their own gingerbread houses and hand-painting stuffed toys. Refreshments were provided by The Little Hot Dog Wagon, Dunkin Donuts, and Sforno Pizza.
